Ferrari is an iconic brand. As is their formula 1 team, being synonymous with the Formula 1 sport itself, as well as their iconic red color. As a formula 1-fan, I wanted to create a mockup for a magazine that would honor its past alongside with presenting the boldness that is Ferrari and its modern evolution in todays era.
While the project is made by myself, I wanted to create it in a direction that would align with Ferraris design philosophy. Ferrari as a brand, value highly the way they are being perceived, and therefor chooses which customers they sell to and what the customers are allowed to purchase. They are just as strict with how their cars are allowed to be designed and modified. If you are modifying a Ferrari in a way which are to their disliking, you may run in the risk to be contacted by the Ferrari company and warn you that you may be banned from making any more purchases unless you remodify the car to its original state. Ferrari is in other words very strict in their clean design, rather than going too flashy (and therefor come of as cheap).
My own design of a magazine for Ferrari.
A lot of posters for the F1-cars of the Scuderia Ferrari F1 team tends to be studio photographs. I decided to create a different, more minimalistic design for the cover. By hiding the sponsor decals, I hide the year of the F1 car-model, making the car less emphasized on a specific year/era. Also, by hiding the sponsor decals, the focus of the readers eyes is put on the red color, being synonymous with the team, rather than the names of the different sponsors. Many fans regard an F1-car without sponsor decals to give a “naked” impression, further giving a sense of transparency of the magazine.
For the double pager, I decided to use the more traditional photographic style in a studio environment. The pages has a white border to both complement the simplistic style of the cover, as well as no to oversaturate the busy pages. Meanwhile, I decided to use large text size for the team name, to signify that the team is not shy of their brand or place in the sport. The ingress is a text for one of the team drivers; Charles Leclerc, blending his signature with his car number in the background on the car. The quote on top is being used in an attempt to attract reading and fits well with the composition of the image.
These images were created using Blender and Photoshop. The car is a bought model that I have retextured to fit with the imagined design.
